First off, I like the National Post. To my mind, it is the better of Canada's national newspapers by a considerable margin... better writing, better design, etc. It just works. That said, they've been running a series over the last while entitled "Imagining the next war" in their 'Ideas' section. Each installment in the five part series gets a full page, photos, etc. Here's a pic of this morning's copy:
Does our world really need this?
What if this same collective of talented writers decided to dedicate five full pages in the National Post to imagining a world without war?
Now, I'm certainly not naive enough to think that would result in the end of armed conflict. However, it would be a considerably better use of talent, ink, and a press to my way of thinking. Appreciative Inquiry teaches us that if we focus on problems, we get more problems. If we focus on what's working, we get more stuff that works.
Taking an appreciative view of the world is not hippy, trippy bullshit. It's a choice.
